Post on: 2011-08-29 By: admin
New Yorkers hit up grocery stores and supermarkets with force Saturday, leaving shelves completely bare in some cases.Bottled water went fast at BJ's Wholesale Club in Port Jefferson, Long Island. At an Associated Supermarket in Long Island City, the lines wrapped around the aisles as shoppers filled their carts with non-perishable items.Drivers also faced long lines at area gas stations, and in some cases, empty pumps. One station in Ozone Park, Queens was completely out of gas by Saturday evening.Drivers who spoke with NY1 said they were trying to fill up before Irene strikes."They say by Monday or Tuesday we're gonna have no gas, so we gotta be prepared," said one driver."Today, you know, everybody's preparing for the hurricane, just getting some gas. Gonna get some for my generator, filling up my car just in case," said another."After the hurricane hits, gas stations are probably gonna be full, right there so, just getting prepared."
